Department Mission
To contribute to the quality of Early Childhood Education through empowering prospective and in service teachers and developing their competencies in the areas of content, pedagogy, and research related to Early Childhood Education. To raise and promote awareness about the role and significance of Early Childhood Education not only as an area of study and practice but also as the foundation for the quality education of a healthy and responsible generation which can effectively contribute to the overall educational progress and national development.
Program Introduction
The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Early Childhood Care and Education) at the Department of Early Childhood Education is designed to provide holistic opportunities to the prospective teachers for their academic development and professional advancement in Early Childhood Care and Education.
Objectives of the Program
The objectives of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Early Childhood Care and Education) program are to:
1.	Develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the wide range of interrelated ares ( cognitive, physical, social, emotional and cultural) which contribute to the children’s development, learning.
2.	Educate and train current as well as prospective early childhood professionals who value best practices, are responsive to the learner needs and are aware of local and international trends in the field.
3.	Develop students as active and self-critical learners, with a sound understanding of the relationship between theoretical frameworks and the active, empirical methods of enquiry which inform the development, interpretation and continued re-evaluation of theory.
4.	Develop students’ understanding of the ways in which children learn indiviadally as well as together in communities and to prepare them to act as creative, playful interpreters of public policies.
5.	Add value in the field of ECCE through high quality research that informs teaching and policy making.
6.	Equip students with moral values, leadership skills, and global perspectives.
7.	Enable participants to skillfully address critical issues in Early Childhood Care and Education through pedagogical, political, psychological, and sociological perspectives.
8.	Prepare students to work effectively with children, parents and colleagues, through careful and sensitive study of individual cases and contexts and through critical examination of the roots and ramifications of policy and practice.
9.	Provide professional exposure to participants in the Early Childhood Care and Education by engaging them in field experience (pratice teaching), which serves as the foundation for future professional practice.
10.	Assist participants in continuous development of their , knowledge , skills and professional identity.
11.	Impassion the prospective teachers to serve in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) as competent educators, researchers, and leaders.

The Department of Early Childhood Education (DECE) has been functioning since 2004, under the umbrella of Institute of Education and Research and Faculty of Education. This department provides specialized education and training for those interested in young children’s education and development from birth to eight years of age The programs of study offered at the DECEare focused on the early childhood education within broader social, historical, political, and cultural contexts and issues pertaining to curriculum, teaching, and learning in early childhood education. Our students are prepared to engage in the real world, learning how to skillfully address critical issues in early education through pedagogical, political, psychological, and sociological perspectives. Prioritizing theory in practice, students in the Early Childhood Education programs also participate in field experience (practice teaching), which serves as the foundation from which to theorize about development, learning, and curriculum. By bringing together coursework and field experience graduates are well-prepared to begin and continue to develop their professional identity and practice in research-informed ways.
